First bath by papa

My baby really enjoys bath...she smiles and seems really content when everyone is around her and trying to seek her attention while she sits in warm water like a princess... So I mustered the courage to give her a bath today when Gunjan suggested I do it. It seemed so cool and nothing which will require special skills... Also I thought probably this way she would associate me with things which are pleasant to her... But I was wrong... its not that easy...it defintely requires skills which I think only mother or grandma's possess inherently.. first of all you can't hold the baby the way you feel like..she becomes slippery and can slip through your hands anytime...then you have to be extra careful as she is excited being in water and her movements are much more than normal..second challenge is to ensure you clean the baby properly...here you really need extra skills...you can't rub wash cloth with too much pressure or multiple times at the same spot else it may result in rash... at the same time you have to ensure you clean her properly which is difficult to gauge... also you have to clean areas like underarms where skin is hidden or creased... now you can't do this without disturbing baby... and challenge is not to feel guilty with the looks on baby's face...finally the biggest challenge is to position her when you wash her back...she is slippery, full of energy, you need to turn her on her stomach...well this is where my dream to get associated with happy moments shattered in a big way....Somehow she slipped from my hand and settled in the tub sideways....i could hear cries all across my head... my wife's, mother in laws, my own (in my head)... and worst of all my baby's...she didn't recover from this episode and kept crying till she was in arms of Nani... The fact of the matter is that nothing seems like what it is on the face of it when it come to baby and no matter what you do, things have their own way to unfold..you can't plan...

  1. Well SHE is your BABY.... but giving bath ... is not everybody's baby...it better be left to Moms and Grand Moms. Any how these are rich experiences and 'Mile stones' in Fathers life and one must cherish them.

  2. haha..hilarious post bhaiya. Kudos to you for trying!! I can tell you its no "inherent" talent. But you do get better with practice. I used to get very nervous giving a bath to Kabir when he was a baby, but its a piece of cake now with Anurag! So don't give up!!
